Anne Boleyn toby jug (medium)

There is something very British about Toby Jugs, they reflect ordinary Britain at a time when hearty drinking was part of everyday life. The idea derives from a song ‘The Brown Jug’ written in 1761 by the Reverend Francis Faulks. It told how a potter discovered the grave of a drinker called Toby Fillpot long after his body had decayed and turned to clay. With part of poor Toby the potter made a beer jug. The song proved very popular and it was only a matter of time before a real potter hit upon the idea of making a jug out of Toby, just like in the song. Height 9cm. Price:£19.95 £14.95
