These chess pieces represent the two opposing armies in the most famous battle fought on English soil. Harold, the English King leads his Saxon forces against the invading William, Duke of Normandy. The ensuing battle near Hastings on the south coast of England in 1066 altered the course of English history. The kings are based on William the Conqueror and Harold Godwinson, the queens on Matilda and Edith Swan Neck; the bishops represent Odo, William's half brother, and Stigand, Archbishop of Canterbury. These chess pieces are authentic reproductions of the characters, clothing and equipment of the era. This hand decorated set reveals the authentic detail in each piece. King height 11cm. The presentation version comes along with its gift case and board included. Made in England. There may be additional postage and packing charges for this item. We will contact you.
