This silver proof coin commemorates  His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh stepping back from public duties.

After a short but distinguished naval career, Prince Philip found a new purpose in life as a loyal consort to Her Majesty The Queen.

His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh has devoted himself to hundreds of different causes, from inspiring young people, and championing British design and tirelessly protecting the environment.

To celebrate this lifetime of achievement, the Royal Mint have stuck a £5 commemorative coin, struck in 925 sterling silver to Proof standard.

This original design features one of the last commissions by highly respected designer Thomas ‘Humphrey’ Paget. The coin table has been worked on by Royal Mint coin designer Lee R. Jones to include a new inscription. It reads ‘NON SIBI SED PATRIAE’ in Latin, which means ‘Not for himself but for his country’.
