Leather Tudor tankard (large)

All levels of society from alehouses to baronial high tables and abbey cloister used leather tankards and jacks. The only use forbidden by mid 16th century special ruling was the holding of the Sacrament at High Mass. Our Tudor tankard is based on the tankards recovered from the Mary Rose, having a wider base than top for greater stability on board ship. This tankard is hand-stitched from heavy saddle leather and is lined with waterproof brewers pitch. It holds approximately one pint.
