- Commemorative the first specification change since it entered circulation to replace the £1 note in 1983. This new design aimed to combat modern day sophisticated counterfeiting with a 12 sided shape and bimetallic composition and appearance. The £1 coin has been in circulation for over 33 years and has featured 24 designs. This new 12 sided £1 coin features a design by 15 year old David Pearce and shows a traditional floral emblem to symbolise a fresh and modern United Kingdom.
