      Anne Boleyn was the second wife of Henry VIII and the mother of Elizabeth I. Anne Boleyn helped to bring about the English reformation and was the first English queen to be publicly executed at the Tower of London.

      Anne Boleyn's 'B' initial necklace

      Anne Boleyn could often be seen wearing her favourite necklace, a gold B necklace suspended from pearls, and this can be seen on many of her portraits which still exist today. This signature piece was later passed down to her daughter Elizabeth I.

      Pearls in the Tudor period

      Pearl jewellery was very popular in Tudor times, and the most fashionable pieces of the mid 16th century included pendants depicting the wearer's initials on a gold chain, the wealthiest of patrons would commission necklaces made entirely from sizeable pearls, Anne Boleyn necklace was made from incredibly white, sized and uniformed pearls, which clearly displayed her wealth at the time and was worn as a symbol of status.
