Crown of India Topped Crown Jewels Velvet Pencil
Velvet Pencil Inspired by the Crown of India, currently on display at the Tower of London. The crown of India has only been worn once, for George V coronation, as Emperor of India, at the Delhi Durbar of 1911 and is set with fabulous gems from India and other countries. The crown is one of the heaviest crowns in the collection, weighing 0.92kg (34.50oz). After wearing the crown for 3 hours at the Delhi Durbar, George V later recorded in his diary that its weight had caused him great discomfort. When George V, as Emperor of India, attended the Delhi Durbar in 1911 to receive the homage of the Indian princes a new crown was required. It was supplied by the present Crown Jewellers and the cost of £60,000 was met by the India Office. On George V return from India the crown was added to the regalia in the Jewel House and has not been used since.
