Royal England Shield
30164020\1
Prior to 1340 the Royal Arms of England had been 3 golden lions on a red field. This shield was used by great warrior kings such as Richard the Lionheart.
In 1340 Edward III quartered his own arms with the Royal Arms of France, representing his claim to the French throne (they were not removed from the Royal Arms until 1801!). The Royal Arms changed form over the years depending on the monarch at the time but the arms in this form were used by both Henry V at Agincourt and by Elizabeth I when defeating the Spanish Armada.
The Royal England Shield is constructed from steel and brass and features an aged cracked paint effect finish with antiqued brass heraldic decoration. It has a hanging chain on the back and a device for vertically mounting a single sword or 2 crossed swords.
