On her twenty-first birthday, 21 April 1947, in a speech broadcast on the radio from Cape Town, Princess Elizabeth dedicated her life to the service of the Commonwealth, 'I declare before you all that my whole life, whether it be long or short, shall be devoted to your service and the service of our great imperial family to which we all belong.'
Designed exclusively for Historic Royal Palaces this opulent decoration is beautifully handmade in luxurious ermine-white velour, embellished with an array of shimmering beads and sparkling crystals. Using the traditional zardozi embroidery technique with metal threads, the finely detailed inscription in gold on the front reads "Queen Elizabeth II 1926 - 2022" and "Longest Reigning Monarch" on the reverse, and features two charming British union flags in red, white and blue.
