Inspired by the Scottish State Coach, with lovely detailing in black enamel on gold metal, embellished with sparkling crystals, this pretty little carriage makes a charming addition to your fridge door or magnet wall. It measures 3cm x 3.5cm (1.25in x 1.5in). A wonderful souvenir of your visit to London or addition to your collection of all things royal. A perfect and unusual gift for anyone with proud Scottish ancestry.
The Scottish State Coach was commissioned in 1830 by Prince Adolphus, The Duke of Cambridge (brother of William IV and grandfather of the future Queen Mary) as a glass "town" (i.e. enclosed) coach. In 1920 it was presented as a gift to Queen Mary and in 1968-9 it was extensively remodelled and restored to its original enclosed state. It was used by Queen Elizabeth II for the first time on the occasion of the opening of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland in Edinburgh on 20 May 1969.
