This stunning, luxurious red velvet cushion is exquisitely embroidered and embellished with gold metal threads and beads, using the traditional zardozi technique. The gold heraldic crest is inspired by the Antonio Verrio wall murals in the Queen's Drawing room at Hampton Court Palace. The murals depict Queen Anne's crest before she signed the act of union creating Great Britain.
The Palace Crest Collection has been exclusively designed for Historic Royal Palaces and celebrates the creation of the United Kingdom of Great Britain in 1707. The crest is surrounded by a garter bearing the motto 'Honi soit qui mal y pense' (Evil to him who evil thinks), symbolising the Order of the Garter, with heraldic supporters, the Lion of England and the Unicorn of Scotland. The motto beneath reads 'Semper Eadem' (Always the same), symbolising constancy, a motto also used by Anne Boleyn and her daughter, Queen Elizabeth I.
