Tower of London lucky sixpence coin
Exclusively available from the Tower of London, this delightful genuine sixpence coin is a charming souvenir ready to display in your home for added luck, and also makes a wonderful gift for any bride to be.
A silver sixpence slipped into the bride's left shoe is a traditional wedding day gift from the bride's father as a good luck token to wish her happiness and prosperity in her marriage. Immortalised in the old rhyme, 'Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue, and a silver sixpence in her shoe’, each sixpence is a genuine circulated pre-decimal coin, and can also represent the 'Something old'. The sixpence or ‘tanner’ was used in Britain from 1551 to 1967 and was made of silver and worth six old pennies; about 28p in new money.
- Designed exclusively for Historic Royal Palaces
- Original circulated British pre-decimal coin
