The Royal family have historically been famous for their love of animals, especially dogs. Queen Victoria owned serveral dachshunds after they were introduced to Britain from Germany in the 1840's.

The name "dachshund" is of German origin and means "badger dog," Because of their long, narrow build, they are often nicknamed sausage dog.
