The stunning Spitalfields Mantua, currently on display at the Crown to Couture exhibition, was made in the famous Spitalfields area of East London, where families of weavers created gorgeous brocaded silk.  The fabric of the Spitalfields Mantua is very complex, with flower motifs woven into the brocaded silk rather than embroidered on to the highly decorative white silk background.
